UPF, or ultraviolet protection factor, is the clothing equivalent to SPF, or sun protection factor, in sunscreen and 50+ is the highest UPF rating that can be given to clothing. Sunscreen isn’t always enough, is often not used correctly and some folks have skin allergies or sensitivities to harsh chemicals that SPF sunscreens can contain.
