With the official start of summer a week away, many of us are thinking about how to make the most of the months ahead. Here are eight outdoor activities that aim to help you have some fun in the sun.
All of the photo shoots for UV Skinz catalogs this year were taken on the beaches of Maui.
Take a hike
Hit the trail this summer at a local or state park. If you’re feeling more ambitious, visit the National Park Service’s website where you can use an interactive map to find parks in each state. Better yet, why not combine visiting a national park with another summertime favorite: taking a road trip.
Try forest bathing
Forest bathing is more about a slow, relaxed walk in the woods — a metaphorical bathing of your senses in the forest — rather than strenuous hiking or exercising. In Japan, the health benefits of shinrin-yoku, which means “forest bathing,” have been recognized for decades.
Hit the trail this summer for some exercise or try forest bathing for relaxation.
Catch a wave
Nothing says summertime like a day at the beach. This year, all the photo shoots for UV Skinz catalogs were taken on the beaches of Maui. Can’t make it to Hawaii or the coast this summer? Try getting out on a lake with a stand-up paddle board or kayak.
Cool off in a swimming hole
Freshwater rivers, streams and creeks are a perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day. But be mindful of fast-moving water and make sure to pack out all trash.
Take me out to the ballgame
America’s national pastime is also a long-standing summertime tradition. If you’re unable make it to a Major League Baseball stadium this summer, consider checking out a Minor League Baseball game. A map with teams across the country can be found here.
Catch a concert
Visit a farmers market
Farmers markets combine fresh seasonal produce with local craft vendors, food and entertainment. Check out the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Farmers Market Directory to find a market near you. And remember to stay safe in the sun by wearing your UV Skinz hats and clothing at the farmers market and on all of your summer outings.
