Stage Free Melanoma Is Waging a War on Skin Cancer

This week marks 19 years since Darren’s passing. It is the event that started a mission culminating in the creation of UV Skinz.
To honor Darren’s memory and the great fight he fought, we’d like to support a charity that is waging their own war against skin cancer. That charity is Stage Free Melanoma.
Get to Know: Stage Free Melanoma
Stage Free Melanoma (SFM) is a non-profit based out of San Diego, CA. They focus their efforts in Southern California, where active, outdoor lifestyles have caused instances of skin cancer to skyrocket.SFM has a 3-prong mission of melanoma research, awareness, and detection.
Melanoma Research
The organization’s primary mission is to support clinical trials in Southern California through fundraising.
Melanoma Awareness
Targeting high schools and universities, SFM connects with area youth through events and social media.
Melanoma Detection
This is where the #MOLEPATROL comes in. The #MOLEPATROL is a mobile dermatology clinic made from a converted school bus.

SFM sets up the #MOLEPATROL at parks and beaches to catch people while sun exposure is top of mind. While there, they offer:
- Free skin screenings by a licensed dermatologist
- Sunscreen and melanoma handouts
- Awareness presentations by survivors and dermatologists
Get to Know: Eric Martin, Founder of Stage Free Melanoma
Eric Martin is the incredible founder of Stage Free Melanoma. After being diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in 2011, Eric saw a real lack of melanoma awareness in his town. That was when SFM was born.
Eric worked tirelessly to educate and encourage early detection to minimize the disease’s impact on his community. He continued this work up to his passing earlier this year.
“Witnessing Eric’s efforts with Stage Free Melanoma, it was clear he had a strong passion and commitment for making a difference.” ~ Rhonda Sparks, UV Skinz CEO
To help Stage Free Melanoma continue fighting skin cancer in Southern California, UV Skinz will be donating $2,500 in Darren’s name.
If you’d like to help SFM wage their war on skin cancer, they accept donations online.
